I got pulled over, and I got yelled at. and then i got yelled at again. Why did I get yelled at twice?

Because I was driving behind my wife when I got pulled over, and I had our girls in the back. The girls like it when I give it a little gas, so when I got to a stop sign, I took off quick. Who knew a regular Focus had enough in it to get you pulled over. I really wanted to ask the cop if he was serious, but I’m pretty sure that’s one of those things you don’t want to do if you want to go along with just a warning.

I was with my dad in his MDX when he got pulled over for going 55 in a 50 (gasp). Cop had a huge stick up his ass and started yelling at my dad immediately, also claiming he was going to 15 over. My dad just started laughing. The cop’s face got real red before he went back to his Charger with my dad’s ID. No ticket was issued.

Can be interpreted as a form reckless endangerment/driving, quickly accelerating feom a stop or through an intersection. Completely arbitrary.

The last time I got pulled over it was because I turned from a street to an avenue, a 90 degree turn and my tires squeeled. I apologized, but also mentioned that there was still sand on the road and I “still” had snow tires on. That was in April or May last year

I’ve been lucky to have no run-ins with the law yet, other than a DUI checkpoint (but that wasn’t them singling me out, oh no.)

Then again, instead of making police officers mad, I make everyone else around me mad because I actually do 35 in a 35.

I started thinking there is no way I’m getting a ticket. Maybe he thought I was going to rip down the street but I stopped at the speed limit. It was kind of a stretch pulling me over. Also what Dr Z said but still....

The last time I got stopped at a DUI checkpoint I was coming back from the grocery with Benadryl because I was having an awful reaction to something. Thankfully I had saved the time stamped receipt because the guy gave me absolute hell for my red eyes. I don’t live in a great part of town though.

One time I got pulled over by a deputy because my registration sticker had fallen off. The real reason is he was coming up behind me at warp 10 and had to slow to 55 because I didn’t pull over (he wasn’t running lights). He yelled and gave me all this BS about how he could have my car impounded for not having my sticker showing...before he let me go. He just wanted to vent at me because I made him slow in a perfectly legal way. While he was running my plate, the young trooper with him told me I would avoid this kind of trouble more if I had a handicap plate. I got one after that.

Exhibition of Speed (CA VC Sec 23109) can be interpreted very broadly. Basically anytime you tear away from a stop they can site you under 23109, or whatever section it might be in another state.

But if Opposaurus actually got cited under his state’s version he could easily fight it and win.

It’s more fun to just do burnouts with them. But you tend to get Turo cars, so I wouldn’t. But with a real rental, oh boy, I turn the wheel and floor it and let the wheels spin.

Exactly. Turo rentals I treat nicely. But any normal rental is going to get abused within reason. This is why I enjoy turo rentals though, it feels more like a real car

I need to check out Turo. I’ve only had to pay for rentals twice, and the second time, because I was trying to save money, and the manager was giving me a good deal, I got stuck in the basic crap. But even their “nice” stuff still sucks.

Turo usually ends up costing almost the same as a basic rental, right? So you get better value, but it’s not like your renting a car for half the price of a shit box?

It really depends on where and what you rent. If you just want a normal car, Turo ends up being slightly more expensive. Plus the mileage restrictions normally eat into most savings. But for anything remotely fun/special, you make out like a bandit. Since the only other way to drive that car would be through a speciality service or to go buy one. This is especially true for renting in LA. I know one example on there is a Focus RS listed for ~$100 a day. That seems like a steal to me! Generally though I just rent from Turo because I want manual stuff and there is nearly no other way to do that.

Oh okay. I’m too cheap to rent things that are fun. I know people and get discounts since I work in automotive, so I can generally get a comfortable car at the shit box rate. The first time I rented with my own money the manager gave me a Journey *shudders* for only $30 a day, but only charged me about half of the days I actually had it. I rented that for a trip to Big Bear, which was a nightmare.

The second time I rented it was one way to LAX, and the manager gave me a car for only $30, with no fees, and he marked the car as empty, so as soon as I got to LAX I just dumped it and got onto the shuttle. It was so worth it.
